Why make art? I think about this every day that I consider not doing it. I consider not doing it because there are times I think it doesn't make a difference, doesn't seem to relate to our communal life, to social change, to the large unanswerable questions. I continue because when I begin working with the images, color, forms....they enter me. They start interacting with life out there and somehow in the process of forming on the canvas, new understandings begin to form in me. Maybe these realizations are held suspended in the painting after I am finished with it. |
